IT'S nothing new in the workplace. We have all heard of how the son of the boss's golf buddy landed the job, or how a higher-up's niece got a sought-after internship without any experience.
I mean, we could go on extolling the virtues of meritocracy, but we all realise eventually that it's often not just "what we know", but "who we know" that gives people a leg-up in life.
These days, "what we know" is probably the most basic requirement for your career. But if you are intent to climb the ranks or nab that coveted role, having the right connections can make all the difference.
