Using data to win the race
The driving force behind the Mercedes's F1 wins is not only its stellar drivers but also its collaboration with data firm Pure Storage
CAN data win you an auto race? Mercedes certainly thinks so. For evidence, just look at their collaboration with flash storage company Pure Storage, and their double wins at the Singapore Grand Prix last Sunday.
In what was said to be the world's first wet night race, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team came in first and third respectively, padding their team's lead in the Formula 1 World Championship, an ongoing event with six more races to go.
During that week of the Singapore Grand Prix, I had a chance to tour the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport garage at the F1 Pit Building, where I spied their slick data storage infrastructure and their adept crew of engineers and mechanics hard at work. For a non-F1 fan, it was an eye-opener.
