NEARLY two months have passed since European football came to a screeching halt due to the spread of the coronavirus.
On April 28, France's Ligue 1 became the first of Europe's five major football leagues to cancel its season, after the government said that no sporting events would be allowed to take place in the country until September at the earliest. That decision meant that runaway leaders Paris Saint-Germain were declared the champions.
The Dutch Eredivisie was also scrapped that same week, although table-toppers Ajax Amsterdam were denied the trophy. It is the first time since 1945 that the Netherlands has not crowned a football league champion.
