IAAF launches stern defence of anti-doping record

Global sporting bodies call for probe into claims of widespread blood doping in track and field

Kuala Lumpur

THE head of world athletics launched a vigorous defence of the IAAF's anti-doping record on Monday, as global sporting bodies called for a thorough probe into the latest doping allegations to plunge track and field into crisis.

International Association of Athletics Federations president Lamine Diack said in response to reports of suspected widespread blood doping that any suggestion his organisation had been negligent was "laughable".
