IT'S unfair. That's the majority verdict about the prize-money distribution when last week's golf's Players Championship was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic after the first day of play.

The US Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) decided to halve the pool prize money of US$15 million -the biggest purse in professional golf history - and distribute it equally among the 144 players who teed off last Thursday.

This meant that first-round leader Hideki Matsuyama of Japan, with a tied-course-record nine-under 63, and Nick Watney and Patton Kizzire, who shot poor 79s, each received the same amount - US$52,083.33.
