Local pro golf gets a boost
A ONE-OFF chance game with businessman Tan Teck Kee has led to a lift for local professional golf. The 47-year-old, a member of Tanah Merah Country Club with a 20-handicap index, has pledged to help Singapore's professional golf with a series of tournaments.
The executive director of a land company gave this assurance to Singapore Professional Golfers' Association (SPGA) president M Murugiah after they played together at the Changi Coast layout last month, following which they had another half a dozen rounds.
Mr Murugiah had explained the plight of the local scene to Mr Tan, and the latter said: "As a Singaporean, I am keen to help my countrymen. I will sponsor a few events, and also get my friends to commit themselves for a few events."
