HUMAN emotions, while squishy, are decidedly simple. What matters in dating is not how much you like a girl, but how much she likes you, for example.

In a similar vein, when it comes to motoring pleasure, what counts is not how a car responds to the driver, but how a driver responds to the car.

The new Mazda CX-5, a five-seat Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) that went on sale here yesterday, is a perfect example of the latter principle in action (though, with the rear seats folded, it's spacious enough in the back to test out the other one).
