Season's readings
IT takes about 10 years for a Christmas tree to grow from a seed to 2 metres high. This may explain why some prefer artificial trees as part of the green movement.
An idea by the National Library staff to bring festive cheer to visitors and promote the joy of reading at the same time has sprouted a one-of-a-kind 3.6-m Christmas tree. On display at the ground floor lobby of the NLB building, the tree is made up of some 2,000 books. These used books will be donated to charities later. The eye-catching display caught the attention of many visitors, and some decided to pose with it. Perhaps, this serves as a reminder that reading never fails to prove a worthy pursuit - regardless of the season.
