IN A BID to appreciate and encourage healthcare workers who have been working tirelessly to help Singapore battle against the Covid-19 pandemic, Shanghai Pudong Development (SPD) Bank, Singapore Branch, partnered coffee retailer % Arabica (Singapore) to donate 270 cups of fresh brew.

For every cup purchased by the bank, % Arabica donates another, and the medical workers at specific care facilities at Yishun Community Hospital and Singapore Expo can look forward to their cuppa every Monday and Wednesday morning from May 18 to June 1.

Healthcare staff at D'Resort @ Downtown East will get their coffee on May 18 and 20.

The 270 medical professionals are from the Woodlands Health Campus team stationed at Yishun Community Hospital, Singapore EXPO and D'Resort @ Downtown East.

Xu Jun, general manager of SPD Bank, Singapore Branch, said : "By getting % Arabica on board this meaningful initiative, the bank hopes to not just express our heartfelt appreciation to the medical workers who have been working tirelessly round-the-clock at the frontlines, but also to inspire a chain effect of doing good, where merchants and financial institutions come together to spread love and encouragement during trying times."

This is the coffee chain's first donation drive in Singapore since the inaugural opening of its Arab Street outlet in June 2019.

Citing community service as a primary driver, Rachel Zhou, head of operations at % Arabica (Singapore), said: "% Arabica (Singapore) is honoured to partner Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, Singapore Branch, in this initiative to thank our frontline healthcare workers who have been helping our nation combat Covid-19 pandemic. Our Orchard outlet is specially opened to prepare coffee to show our appreciation to these amazing individuals."

In accordance with the current circuit breaker measures, % Arabica's delivery personnel, with a maximum of three staff from the bank at any given time per venue, all fully masked, helped out with the delivery of 270 cups of coffee on site. Elaine Huang, VP, financial markets of SPD Bank, Singapore branch, said: "Though we are doing something small, I hope to get them recharged and brighten up their long day at work."

This is the bank's second donation drive in a month, following the delivery of 5,000 curry puffs to more than 260 migrant workers on May 7. Going forward, it is actively exploring other channels to do good.
