SPD Bank donates curry puffs to migrant workers
Singapore
SHANGHAI Pudong Development (SPD) Bank's Singapore branch on Thursday donated 5,000 Old Chang Kee curry puffs to more than 260 workers' dormitories.
The initiative - with the support of non-governmental organisation Alliance of Guest Workers Outreach, and Singapore Press Holding's Lianhe Zaobao - reached out to more than 12,000 migrant workers, mainly from India, Bangladesh, and China.
Four staff from the bank's Singapore branch helped to pack goodie bags with items such as crackers, detergents, and other daily essentials, and also assisted in delivering them to two big dormitories in Woodlands.
In accordance with the circuit- breaker measures, the supervisor, with a maximum of two workers assisting at any given time - all wearing masks - collected the cartons outside their dorms.
Xu Jun, general manager, SPD Bank, Singapore branch, said: "Migrant workers are an integral part of our social and economic fabric. Their well-being has a direct impact on our livelihoods, not just in terms of infrastructure and smooth running of day-to-day systems but also in terms of economic progression.
