FOR an entire week starting this Sunday, tennis fans will train their sights on the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang - the venue for the fifth and final edition of the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global tournament. The world's top eight players - minus the injured world No 1 Simona Halep - are in town for the glittery US$7 million event, described as the "crown jewel" of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) tour.
They have been placed in two groups of four and will compete in a round-robin format. The top two in each group will advance to next Saturday's semi-finals, with the championship match set to take place a day later. Here, in order of their ranking on the Porsche Race to Singapore leaderboard, are the elite eight who are eyeing the Billie Jean King trophy.
