3 local golfers win trip to BMW World Final in South Africa

THREE local golfers were picked earlier this week to compete at the 30th BMW Golf Cup International World Final at the Fancourt Golf Resort in the South African city of George in March next year.

The trio are Brian Seah (men's category 1), Lem Kean Su (men's category 2), and Dily Ng Lay Choon (ladies).

They emerged victorious after a two-day tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday that saw over 200 golfers competing at the Tanah Merah Country Club's Tampines course.

Singapore is one of nearly 50 countries that is involved in this year's BMW Golf Cup International 2019 Singapore Finals, which picks winners for the grand finals in South Africa.

Now in its 26th year, the BMW World Final started in 1992 in England. Today, more than 100,000 golfers compete annually because the German carmaker is a major supporter of world golf.

The Singapore finals was hosted by BMW Asia, Performance Motors Limited, and Performance Munich Autos.

At the Tanah Merah Country Club, everybody was a winner of some sort. Guests walked away with a goodie bag, savoured a delectable eight-course dinner, and enjoyed an outing on one of the top golf courses in Singapore.

Golf buggies zig-zagged constantly because of the huge turnout, while stations at various tee-boxers served plenty of good food, wine and whisky.

Later at the gala dinner, it was all glitz and glamour at the club's ballroom where a BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe revolved on stage, wide LED screens flashed back on previous tournaments around the world and a host of lucky draw prizes were dished out.

"The BMW Golf Cup International is a popular event, and I believe every year is more exciting than the last," said Christopher Wehner, the managing director of BMW Group Asia.

"The winners of the BMW Golf Cup International 2019 Singapore are in for a once in a lifetime sporting experience in South Africa. I wish them all the luck and look forward to cheering them on to victory."
