A naturally growing wine scene
A growing number of niche shops adds more variety for wine lovers.
FROM natural wines to Greek labels, niche wine stores have proliferated in Singapore of late, bringing more variety to an already well-stocked wine scene. With new Covid-19 restrictions curtailing our movements, these brick-and-mortar stores with an online presence ensure that wine lovers can maintain their varied diet of tipples. Besides esoteric options, there's also an e-commerce site featuring fine wines expertly blind-tasted and curated by a group of top-notch sommeliers.
Among wine trends, naturally fermented wines made with minimal human and chemical intervention are gaining popularity. Caitlin Schriner, co-founder of Wine Mouth, a new natural wine retail store, says that natural wine producers can be found across the globe, and account for a "shift in the wine world".
Spa Esprit Group's founder Cynthia Chua concurs. There weren't many wine merchants specialising in natural wines because of the a misconception that they're "funky". That's why she created Drunken Farmer to showcase a bevy of well-made and well-priced natural wines.
