IT WAS something of a miracle to watch The Rhythm Of Us, the first-ever collaboration between two major arts companies, Singapore Symphony Orchestra and Singapore Dance Theatre, in the delayed final leg of Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) 2021.
Pushed back because of the pandemic, the live version debuted at the Esplanade to a limited audience capacity of just 100.
But in spite of this and the masks they had to wear, the performers delivered fine, exceptional turns that reminded the audience why live performance is still so critical to the arts amid the proliferation of digital alternatives.
