Amateur Foo turns on a pro round

THE Rolex clock showed 8.20. Unlike the previous five mornings, the sun peeped out of the grey skies to provide some warmth to the golfers eyeing the SMBC Singapore Open title.

A strong breeze wafted across the first tee at Sentosa's Serapong course. On the tee-box were two thoroughbred professionals, Javi Colomo of Spain and Choi Ho Sung. Standing alongside was a Singaporean amateur, a celebrated one though in Gregory Foo, the island's No. 1 non-pro.

Foo did not feel the nerves though, for it was his fourth Singapore Open. It was also a confidence borne out of his making the cut at the event last year.
