Around Town
Pick of the Week
INSPIRATION often strikes when you're not actually looking for it. For Chinese artist Deng Cheng Wen, it struck seven years ago, while on his university graduation trip around China. He saw a group of young people walking down the street, and suddenly came up with the idea to do a series of art works titled Blind Walking. Starting this weekend, 20 pieces of oil paintings and watercolour paintings from this series will be on display at the Ode to Art Platform.
"I wanted to showcase the mental state of youth in China, and how it is controlled by society," says the 33-year-old artist. "They lose their direction, encounter dishonest people whether in business transactions or personal relationships. I hope to highlight how they should question things and be more suspicious so they will look for the truth."
