Pick of the Week
The Gathering: Three alternative music acts are making their way back to Singapore this weekend. Australian synth-pop duo Empire of the Sun play their own headlining gig tonight as part of a new concert series called The Gathering. It's the first show of their 2014 tour behind their critically acclaimed new album Ice on the Dune and, as always, a colourful light-and-sound extravaganza with elaborate stage design and costumes can be expected. Local band Monster Cat will open the show.
Also returning to Singapore are American indie darlings The National (photo) and Scottish post-rockers Mogwai. They will be co-headlining the inaugural Hostess Club Weekender, a boutique one-day music festival tomorrow evening, together with up-and-comers King Krule, Ásgeir and Buke and Gase. Unlike most festivals, all the bands on the Hostess Club Weekender bill will be playing full sets.
