Art by ex-offenders showcased in exhibition
AN exhibition of paintings by ex-offenders shows the power of art to rehabilitate and bring hope.
Organised by Global Cultural Alliance (GCA), the exhibition titled Routes features 19 artworks by ex-offenders and their mentors who are part of CANVAS, a support group providing training for previously-incarcerated individuals at the Visual Arts Hub (VAH) in Changi Prison Complex. The artworks are on display and for sale at 10 Square @ Orchard Central from now till Nov 2.
Phan Ming Yen, a director of GCA, says: "GCA's programmes under its Building Communities vertical have always focused on projects that relate to health, mental well-being and social sectors. For us, the arts play an instrumental role in the transformative process of an individual in his or her journey through life as evident through the work of the aspiring artists in CANVAS."
