Remember the word AlUla (pronounced Al-Ooo-La) - where Saudi Arabia is spending billions in the belief that art lovers will come from far and wide to see some of the world’s best art in this awe-inspiring desert. They include the highly sought-after American artist James Turrell who plans to build a tunnel and “skyspace” spanning several kilometres across the desert. There’s also Manal al-Dowayan, a pioneering Arab female artist, and still others including Agnes Denes, Michael Heizer and Ahmed Mater. BTlifestyle travelled to this wondrous old city, and in tomorrow’s issue, reports on what visitors can expect.

In Design, it’s time for collaborations as familiar brands like SIA and Charles & Keith work with a local creative to make and sell products recycled from retired aircraft interiors. We’ll also check out the works of winners at the Red Dot Design Awards.

In Dining, we find out how stalwart Japanese grill Akanoya Robatayaki has reinvented itself as a modern izakaya with craft cocktails.
