The art of wearing men's jewellery

IF you're a man with the barest sense of personal style, you might have wondered at some stage if you should wear jewellery. Nothing feminine, of course, and nothing too loud, maybe. Since you already wear a luxury watch on one hand,why not decorate the other hand with a discreet bracelet or signet ring. And how about a lapel pin, or a sleek chain?

"First of all, the jewellery must complement what you're wearing," says Harris Zaidi, director of bespoke jewellery company Arte Oro. "Since the silhouette for men's clothing tends to be jacket, shirt and pants, which covers much of the body, the most obvious things you can show are rings and bracelets." ("You could also opt for ear studs too - but that's a little street," he says.)

Mr Harris says men's clothing styles tend to be minimalist, with colours such as white, blue, grey and black dominating wardrobes. "So you can either go minimalist as well, with jewellery designs that are simple and clean. Or, if you're like me, you can go the opposite way with strong jewellery pieces, creating a sharp contrast to your minimalist clothes."
