HIGH-END art cluster Gillman Barracks is better known for featuring established artists instead of new ones. But a new exhibition called Scout plans to bring together works by 25 emerging Singapore artists into 16 shipping containers sprawled over one of its carparks.
The artists comprise "overseas-based Singaporean artists, fresh art school graduates, under-the-radar urban artists, mid-career practitioners and ground-up artists initiatives whose entries or re-entries into the art world have brought fresh offerings to the scene", say curators Patricia Chen and Joanna Lee.
Chen explains: "The show is a non-commercial pop-up, essentially programmed to showcase promising young emerging artists who are practising in ways that give thought not only to range but also their interests, perspectives and strategies. In facilitating visibility for the artists, we've programmed events to allow the artists to have an opportunity to receive exposure and feedback on their practice."
