THE classical music scene gets a boost next January with the new Singapore International Violin Competition (SIVC).
The triennial event will cast its net wide to look for the best young violinists in the world and have them play at the top concert halls here, including the Victoria Theatre, the Esplanade Concert Hall and the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YST), the host of the event.
The grand finals will see three top violinists battle it out by playing some of the greatest violin music in history, from Beethoven to Prokofiev. They will be accompanied by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Vladimir Verbitsky. The concerts are open to the public.
