Rather silly but quite entertaining

HAVING successfully taken the mickey out of female bridal parties (Bridesmaids, 2011) and buddy cop chicks (The Heat, 2013), writer-director Paul Feig now hits the C(omedy)-spot with Spy, a spoof about secret agents.

Melissa McCarthy masquerades as an international woman of mystery (not!) and - with a notable supporting cast in full mock-serious mode - makes light work of the genre, breathing life into the space vacated by Austin Powers and other comic operatives.

McCarthy's proven ability as a scene-stealing comedienne and box-office magnet (no matter the quality of the film) makes her one of the more bankable stars in the funny-people industry.
