The LKY Musical: tight, pacy, engaging
WITH a title as bald and unabashed as The LKY Musical, one might worry this would a chest-thumping, patriotic story of former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, with characters looking more superhuman than human, making mawkish proclamations about courage and sacrifice.
Such worries, however, can be allayed.
The two-hour show by new company Metropolitan Productions turns out to be a tightly-paced and well-engineered affair. It is elegantly written, directed, designed and performed. Its political drama is gripping, even if its music is not. Its cast is generally good, even if Sharon Au's performance as Mrs Lee Kuan Yew makes you wonder how she got the part.
