AFTER winning the 2015 UOB Painting of the Year (Singapore, Established Artist category) award, Benjamin Cruz decided the time was right to hold a solo exhibition.
The show, titled Vision and Visionaries, is on until June 8 at the UOB Art Gallery. The 15 paintings on show are mostly created in the abstract realist vein of his award-winning painting Building..., which combines figurative images of Singapore buildings amid large and textured swirls of colours.
Mr Cruz worked as a graphic artist at The Business Times from 1988 to 2005 while pursuing painting in his spare time. But he says: "Now that my three children have completed their studies and are financially independent, I can pursue my passion for painting."
