Art Collectors' Anti-Virus Party
Gajah Gallery throws a VIP bash in lieu of the cancelled Art Basel Hong Kong
NO ART BASEL Hong Kong? No problem. One leading Singapore gallery is holding its own group exhibition featuring big-name artists. And to create the Art Basel feel, there's a vernissage night complete with a dress code ("Hong Kong noir"), a VIP lounge and an invite-only after party.
Gajah Gallery's gambit goes so far as to have an exhibition format that mimics that of Art Basel Hong Kong (ABHK), with its specially-curated sections such as "Kabinett" (for theme-based showcases) and "Discoveries" (for emerging artists).
The gallery's exhibition will open on March 21, the same week that Art Basel Hong Kong (ABHK) is supposed to run prior to its Covid-19-related cancellation. So art collectors sore about wasted flight tickets and non-refundable hotel reservations can go to Gajah and seek solace among others similarly affected.
