Girls Wanna Have Fun
Two terrific young playwrights, Pooja Nansi and Jessica Bellamy, also happen to be huge hip-hop fans. In this unusual play titled Thick Beats For Good Girls, the two young women look at what it's like to be female and embrace the funky sounds of hip-hop that's sometimes empowering, sometimes misogynistic - but always energetic and infectious. They also explore their memories of growing up under the familial expectations of being "good girls" and their statuses as ethnic or religious minorities.
With the acclaimed Huzir Sulaiman as the dramaturg and director, Thick Beats For Good Girls will likely be one of the hippest, most heartfelt experiences you'll have at the theatre this year.
Thick Beats For Good Girls plays at the Drama Centre Black Box from April 5 to 22. Tickets at S$45 from Sistic.
