A bachelor’s homely hideout
Muted colours, clever storage details and textures make this apartment a loft-like oasis
AFTER taking away the 300 square feet (sq ft) of space from two balconies, this condominium apartment in town leaves only about 800 sq ft of built-in space, spread across two storeys. But what it lacks in footprint, it makes up for in attitude and multifunctionality due to the smart ideas provided by HEI Architects.
The owner was a trained architect but now works in the finance industry. “Having spent much of his formative years overseas, he grew accustomed to (having) his own space and wanted one where he could escape from the bustle of everyday life,” says Christopher Chow, principal architect of the architecture firm.
“His vision for the space was straightforward: It was to serve as his own fortress of solitude, (to which his close friends and family are) occasionally privy.”
