Ballsier Dollies
Helmi Yusof
BOLDLY going where no cabaret revue has gone before, the new Dim Sum Dollies show The History of Singapore Part 2 mines humour out of politically sensitive episodes such as Operation Coldstore in the 1960s, the Marxist Conspiracy in the 1980s and the escape of Mas Selamat in 2000s - with mixed results.
Where once the trio were content to poke fun at less risky targets such as the Merlion and Sarong Party Girls, the new Dim Sum Dollies is a more politically aware act that wants to have its say - albeit humorously - in issues that Singaporeans hardly talk about.
In some ways, the trio - Selena Tan, Pam Oei and Denise Tan - are merely reflecting the sea change in mindsets since the rise of the Internet and the 2011 Singapore election which saw a greater political awareness among voters.
