VINTAGE is cool, and there's no Singapore musical that's more delightfully vintage than Beauty World. From its storyline to its tunes and the "look" of the era, the work is an enjoyable cha-cha-cha down memory lane for a host of reasons.
Foremost, of course, is that it's a re-staging of a 1988 production, by itself considered a golden oldie. Even for that 80s production, the storyline harking back to the 60s was vintage. Dick Lee co-wrote the musical with playwright Michael Chiang, but this time around, Lee is bringing his own vision of the production to life as director.
Beauty World is the story of a 19-year-old Ivy (Cheryl Tan) from Batu Pahat, who comes to Singapore to look for her father, armed with just one clue - a jade pendant with "Beauty World" inscribed on it.
