Ben Stiller plans new healthy soda brand named Stiller’s
Actors including Ryan Reynolds and George Clooney have used their celebrity to promote new consumer brands, including Aviation Gin and Casamigos tequila, to great success
[NEW YORK, LOS ANGELES] Actor and producer Ben Stiller is planning to launch a low-sugar soda named Stiller’s, according to sources with knowledge of the matter.
The 59-year-old New York native has held talks about raising funds for the venture, said one of the sources, all of whom asked to not be identified because the discussions are not public. The plans are not finalised and could still change.
A trademark application for Stiller’s, described as a fruit-flavoured, carbonated beverage, was filed in November, according to a website that tracks the US Patent and Trademark Office.
The Information reported earlier on the trademark filing.
Known for roles in There’s Something About Mary and Zoolander, Stiller intends to star in advertisements promoting the product, one of the sources said. As a producer and director, Stiller has a big hit on his hand currently with the AppleTV+ show Severance. He previously pitched Pepsi Zero Sugar in a 2023 Super Bowl spot.
A representative for Stiller did not respond to a request for comment.
Actors including Ryan Reynolds and George Clooney have used their celebrity to promote new consumer brands, including Aviation Gin and Casamigos tequila, to great success. Stiller’s social media presence includes 5.3 million followers on X and 2.1 million on Instagram.
The launch of Stiller’s would come amid a boom period for healthier soda alternatives. PepsiCo on Monday (Mar 17) said it would acquire prebiotic soda brand Poppi for US$1.95 billion, confirming an earlier Bloomberg News report. Olipop, a key competitor, raised new funding at a US$1.85 billion valuation in February, while Coca-Cola launched its own prebiotic soda called Simply Pop in February. Prebiotics, a specialised plant fibre, aid in digestion.
Other examples of celebrities jumping into the beverage industry include Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who co-founded Zoa Energy; Blake Lively, who started Betty Buzz and Betty Booze, makers of sparkling soda and cocktails, respectively; and Katy Perry, who co-founded non-alcoholic aperitif brand De Soi.
