Bittersweet departure inspires album

TWO decades in, Death Cab For Cutie (DCFC) is bracing itself for new beginnings.

Initially a solo project which frontman-guitarist Ben Gibbard started in 1997, the Washington group has risen quickly to become one of the world's biggest indie bands. But they have been reduced to a trio now after long-time member Chris Walla quit in 2014. Bassist Nick Harmer and drummer Jason McGerr complete the current line-up.

The group was in town earlier this week to play Singapore for the third time as well as to promote their new album Kintsugi.
