Blissful Bali
BT checks out 3 courses where golf aficionados can spend their year-end break.
FOR those thinking about where to spend their end-of-year break for a relaxing golfing holiday, Bali is an excellent choice. Together with a handful of golf courses, there are beautiful beaches, rice terraces, surf, food, spas, temples and rich culture to experience. The Business Times checked out three courses.
Bali National Golf Club
Following a recent redesign by Nelson & Haworth Golf Course Architects, this 18-hole championship course, which first opened in 1991, is now open for play. Formerly named the Bali Golf & Country Club, the par-72 layout measures 6,552 metres from the championship tees, and has been remodelled with new fairways and green complexes. The front nine is a par-35 that plays on undulating land away from the ocean, while the back nine is on relatively flat land with a par-37 configuration. Most of the layout has retained its original design, except for the dramatic new 17th and 18th holes. The par-3 17th is quite dramatic with its island green and therefore club selection is key. This course is a must on any golfer's itinerary. Facilities include a modern clubhouse, pro-shop, restaurant, bars, VIP lounge and a golf institute.
