Blood ties
How do you continue to love a relative suffering from dementia? How do you care for him through trying stretches of aggressive behaviour? The Long Goodbye is a touching play about a grown-up son whose accomplished writer father is losing his memory and sense of self. Oddly though, the father retains memories of the book he once wrote about his experiences of fatherhood. With fragments of memories rekindled by the book, the young man learns to love his father unconditionally again. The play is staged by Taiwan's Story Works X Dreamland.
The Long Goodbye runs at the Esplanade Theatre from Feb 7 to 9. In Mandarin with English surtitles. Tickets from Sistic.
