LAST Friday, The Business Times Budding Artists Fund celebrated 16 years of helping underprivileged youth find their voice through the arts. Among the performers was Dowlatkhah N Sara, a former beneficiary of the fund, who told a touching story of the how the arts got her through her darkest days.

Ms Sara, 27, had studied music with the help of the fund from 2011 to 2012. Even after she graduated from the course, she kept in touch with her friends and teachers from The Rice Company Limited (TRCL) which manages the fund and conducts the classes.

She says: "TRCL taught me the basics of music, singing and creativity, and also introduced me to the music industry by inviting me to sing at various gigs and concerts."
