KING IS ALL ABOUT LIVING - and the role it plays in people's lives, especially their homes.

The venerated Australian furniture maker has been around since 1977, building its reputation for timeless designs with modular features that adjust to the changing lifestyle needs of its customers.

Based in Sydney, KING embraces sustainability, style and technical innovation, creating contemporary, versatile home furnishings that literally grow with you - becoming sentimental family favourites that offer years of comfort and understated luxury.

The proof of the pudding comes from people who make up KING loyal customers, and we speak to three families who have turned their homes into stylish sanctuaries to live, work and play in.

    HAPPY FAMILY

When civil servant Mrinalini (Mini) and her parents moved into their new semi-detached house in Kovan, they knew exactly what they were going to furnish their living room with - the Jasper sofa and Aspen coffee table from KING.

They were originally purchased in 2019 for their previous home, but as they were in excellent condition, it was a no-brainer decision to bring them over to their new home. The two pieces were also joined by several new additions -an Issho dining table paired with Amara dining chairs, two ReoGrand sofa beds, a Quay Indoor chair and a KING Cove outdoor set.

The award-winning Jasper sofa is a perennial favourite of KING customers with its relaxed style and luxurious comfort, not to mention its flexibility with customised options including hidden storage, shelving and even a media console.

"Our Jasper sofa has been a source of joy and comfort to our family over the past three years," says Mini. "So when it was time to move to a new home and add more furniture, we immediately went back to KING for its quality and elegance in design."

The family loves the sofa for its size, which provides ample space for each family member to lounge or watch TV. The sofa is also easy to maintain with its stain and water-resistant fabric.

The close-knit family also enjoys meals together at their new Issho dining table, which translates as "together" in Japanese. Made of premium timber veneer with softly rounded edges and perfectly balanced proportions, the Issho offers the option of a built-in lazy susan, perfect for celebratory feasts. The dining table is complete with minimalist Amara chairs - made of sustainably-sourced hardwood timber veneer and crafted with a combination of centuries-old woodworking techniques and advanced comfort engineering.

Art, culture and wildlife conservation are some of their passions, and these are refl ected in their choice of decor.

A rhino knitwork hangs above their ReoGrand sofa bed, creating a sophisticated lounge area in a corner of their home. Should guests stay overnight, the ReoGrand folds out to reveal a comfortable KingCell mattress, guaranteeing a comfortable night's sleep.

Mini paints as a hobby as well. She used to travel yearly to India and once visited the Bibi Ka Maqbara in Maharashtra. With its striking resemblance to the Taj Mahal, she was inspired to paint it, and it now decorates a wall at home - a personal touch to the already elegant interiors by KING.

    PERSONAL SANCTUARY

For Andrea and Francis Braeckevelt and their two daughters, their terrace home in the Thomson area is a sanctuary from their constantly busy days filled with school and work. It's especially so with the pandemic, as they spend more time at home.

The Braeckevelts favour clean contemporary lines and their choice of KING furniture includes an Encore bed and Serenade bedside table in the master bedroom. They also love the flexibility of the Bongo ottoman - they have one with an added tray that acts as a table, and a smaller one that doubles as a footstool.

The Encore is a KING exclusive design with a plush tufted bedhead that's great support for bedtime reading. It's also built to last with an engineered steel and alloy frame, and timber veneer legs in a variety of finishes.

The Bongo is cleverly designed for multiple functions, whether you need extra seating or a comfortable footstool for lounging. Besides a wide range of fabrics or leathers, the Bongo also features optional built-in storage.

With its clutter-free design, it's hard to believe the family has lived in their home for almost three years. Despite having two young daughters, Andrea is able to keep the home tidy thanks to the Bongo ottomans with storage options. "KING designs fi t exactly what I wanted for my home - sleek and contemporary," she says. "They are beautiful and well made."

Their keen eye for cool interiors is a given, considering that Leana is a fi ne jade and diamond jewellery designer who is also a content and social media manager. Dharma is a technology and privacy lawyer who is also a published photographer.

The Jasper sofa is a testament to modularity, with an endless number of configurations that even include a guest bed. Its neat, architectural lines are a perfect fit with the couple's chic apartment.

The couple is not new to KING, either.

"I used to have a KING sofa when I was living in Sydney," says Leana. "When I left, I gave it to a friend who loved it for a decade. When my husband and I bought our apartment, I knew I wanted another KING sofa. It's where we unwind and reconnect most nights after work."
