TUDOR’S POPULAR BLACK BAY 58 was out in full display at Watches & Wonders 2024. Taking the spotlight were two scene-stealers: a colourful GMT that harks back to the golden age of travel, and an all-gold diving watch – the brand’s first.

Black Bay 58 GMT

Tudor unveiled an all-new Master Chronometer certified GMT in a collection named after the year that its first diver’s watch was submerged 200 metres underwater and resurfaced still ticking.

The golden age of travel recalls the jet-setting days of the 1950s when the novelty of flying across time zones was matched by glamour and elegance. The Black Bay 58 GMT, with its burgundy and black bidirectional bezel and a gilt 24-hour scale on a popular stainless steel case, displays a touch of mid-century stylishness that speaks of those early heady days of flying.

Even the slimmer case size of the new multiple-time zone watch – 39 mm instead of the 41 mm Black Bay GMT – is in keeping with the characteristic proportions of the 1950s. Another fan-favourite touch is the watch’s winding crown, which bears the Tudor rose logo in relief.

The watch may come with the “rivet-style” three-link bracelet that’s reminiscent of the riveted bracelets used by Tudor in the 1950s and 1960s, or a cut-to-size rubber strap in three sizes and fitted with the Tudor “T-fit” clasp for the perfect fit.

The Black Bay 58 GMT is powered by an in-house self-winding mechanical movement with 65 hours of power reserve. It is certified for superior precision and all-round above-average performance by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) and the Federal Institute of Metrology.

With its latest edition, Tudor’s Black Bay 58 has gone full gold, with a solid satin-finished 18-ct yellow gold bracelet. Previously, the Black Bay 58 had only donned a yellow gold case paired with a non-metal strap.

The solid gold bracelet now completes the golden profile of the popular diving watch: a 39 mm yellow gold case with satin finish and open caseback; a subtly domed matt “golden green” dial graced by the famous “Snowflake” hands as well as applied hour markers in yellow gold; and the yellow gold bracelet.

A three-link band, the new gold bracelet features the Tudor “T-five” clasp, which can be adjusted easily and quickly for a length of up to 8 mm. The clasp is affixed with ceramic ball bearings that ensure a smooth and secure closure, in addition to providing a pleasing tactile feel to the action of the clasp. The watch runs on an in-house mechanical movement with 70 hours’ power reserve, certified by COSC.

Clair de Rose

Tudor’s feminine Clair de Rose line has been bestowed with a brand new “Tudor Blue” dial. “In a classic, refined and timeless spirit, it uses the brand’s historic aesthetic codes without straying from the gentle curves of its middle and its striking winding crown, which on this model is set with a blue spinel cabochon,” says the brand.

The model is available in 26, 30 and 34 mm with the dial delicately decorated in relief, punctuated with Roman numerals or diamonds. The Clair de Rose runs on a self-winding movement complete with date function – and available only in stainless steel.

The collection is traced back to the Art Deco days of the early 1930s. Back then Tudor was known for crafting delicate and cutting-edge jewellery watches with a wealth of details that range from decorative case engravings to subtle dial ornaments and precious bracelets. The Clair de Rose is a modern take on that heritage. It presents a style that is both delicate and bold, making aesthetic reference to the line with evocative names such as Princess, Glamour or Mrs.
