IT WOULD be a bit obvious to open a review of a car with the name Polestar with a gag about exotic dancing, but this is an electric vehicle with some moves and quite the eye-catching body, notwithstanding the modest size of its headlights.
But if you were wondering, Polestar began life in 1996 as a racing team that prepped Volvo 850s for the Swedish Touring Car Championship. Volvo Cars eventually brought it in-house and turned it into a standalone carmaker, with the two maintaining intimate links.
People in Sweden don black turtlenecks to design the cars, which are then built in China. A Nasdaq listing is imminent via a merger with Gores Guggenheim, a special purpose acquisitions company.
