Capturing green spaces

HAVING grown up surrounded by greenery and spending his childhood on the edge of a jungle in Malaysia, local artist Siew Hock Meng has always felt an affinity with natural landscapes.

And even after he moved away from the jungle, his affection for nature only grew stronger as he started living in "our modern living conditions", says the 72-year-old.

"Most modern places and scenes today lack a 'naturalness'. They always seem so constructed and devoid of life, such that I have a renewed sense of appreciation for the natural greenery around me," he adds.
