CCL's Elisa Mallis is burning bright, not burning out
For triathlete Elisa Mallis, staying at the top of your game is about finding the right balance that works for you
MY involvement with triathlon started in 2004 when a couple of colleagues convinced me to sign up for one to raise funds for the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Society. At the time I was living in New York City, and it took several months of group training sessions, running, biking and swimming, to prepare for the event.
I took part in a couple more triathlons again as part of a team, and particularly enjoyed being outdoors for most of the training sessions and having the variety of running, biking and swimming that keeps things interesting and also balances work on many different muscle groups.
Soon after, my career took me halfway across the world to London and later to Beijing, where weekly business trips and the birth of my two boys made it difficult to continue with such a physically demanding sport.
