Celebrating kids' innocence and simplicity
TWO Chinese sculptors celebrate the innocence and simplicity of children in their artworks - one imbuing them with Buddhist values while the other choosing a more self-reflective, humanist approach.
Xie Aige's simple rounded characters with trees and organic shapes have a certain recognisable whimsy to them, but upon closer look, they're also quite weighty - in the sense that they embody a certain kind of philosophy.
"The rounded-ness of the characters are drawn from Chinese tradition. The belief is that humans should be rounded so they are harmonious and 'neutral' and there's less friction," she explains.
