In celebration of women's achievements

INTERNATIONAL Women's Day falls on March 8 - a day that is set aside globally each year to "celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women". Gender equality is its theme this year, and no one embodies that more clearly than top banker Tan Su Shan, who has made female empowerment top of her agenda for much of her 30-year career in finance.

In Friday's issue of Weekend Magazine, we put the spotlight on the banking veteran, whose combination of leadership and inclusivity makes her a role model for International Women's Day. She shares with us her management style which is about making difficult decisions and not being afraid to ask for help, even from those who are younger and less experienced.

Besides co-founding the Financial Women's Association to promote gender equality and help women navigate challenges in the industry, she is a firm advocate of reverse mentoring and getting up to speed on tech and digital developments with the help of younger colleagues. On top of that, she is also actively involved in philanthropic missions to provide clean water and health care to the underprivileged in Cambodia.
