GOLF was a sport banned by China's paramount leader Mao Zedong during his reign in the 1950s to the 1980s because he considered it too bourgeois.
It is a sport that's also discouraged by current Chinese President Xi Jinping because he considers it too elite, which explains his decision to cut down on the number of courses in the world's second-largest economy.
