Chinese lifestyle brands make their mark in Singapore
IF YOU’VE been wondering about the influx of F&B outlets from China taking Singapore by storm, it doesn’t stop there. Chinese lifestyle brands could be the next wave, as new-to-market names such as Boloni, Anta and Beneunder set up showrooms and even flagship stores selling everything from sporting goods to furniture. This means more options for savvy shoppers, but also more competition for retail incumbents. In this Friday’s issue of BT Lifestyle, we talk to some of these brands and also find out how local retailers can stay nimble and relevant.
It’s Valentine’s Day, and if you’re still celebrating with the ubiquitous dinner and overpriced roses, why not check out our guide to different ways to woo your lover that they won’t forget. From luxurious yacht cruises to dinners in the dark or an adventure with Alice in Wonderland, celebrate your love with a difference. And even if it’s too late to make a booking, remember that showing affection isn’t limited to one day a year.
We also look at the tradition of red roses – that one colour which spikes in price the closer you get to the big day. But you don’t have to stop at red as lovers are increasingly experimenting with other coloured roses and flowers. What do you think of this?
Meanwhile, Chinese New Year may be over but the Year of the Snake has just begun. To mark the occasion, an auction of 30 snake paintings featuring only snakes of Singapore will be carried out next week, with proceeds going to wildlife sanctuary Animal Concerns Research and Education Society.
And if you’ve had more than your fill of yusheng, ramp up your palate with the zingy flavours of Mexico at the new Tomatillo, a colourful casual eatery at the Esplanade.
Read about all this and more in Friday’s issue of BT.
