IN CELEBRATION of its 120th anniversary, Citi has donated S$120,000 to the annual charity concert ChildAid, which supports The Business Times Budding Artists Fund (BT BAF) and The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (STSPMF). This donation comes on top of S$7.1 million the bank has raised for the two charities since 2002.
Citi’s Asean Head and Citi Country Officer for Singapore Amol Gupte and Asia-Pacific CEO Peter Babej presented the cheque to the representatives of the 2 charities at the bank’s Global Community Day’s family day carnival at Singapore Expo last Friday (Jun 17).
Over 1,000 Citi employees and their family members attended the event, which featured 16 game and activity stations. Different Citi teams manned the station and conducted their own individual charity fundraising efforts. It was Citi’s first large-scale in-person fundraising event since the pandemic struck.
In a speech, Gupte said that despite Singapore’s affluence, there is a segment of underprivileged people that require assistance and engagement.
“Citi’s commitment to supporting the underserved (communities) stems from our mission and value proposition that enables growth and progress for the community where we live and work,” he said.
Citi has been a stalwart champion of ChildAid since its humble beginnings in 2005, when the concert was a simple event with a small group of performers. The 18th edition of the concert will take place later this year with a large cast, now that Covid-19 restrictions on stage performances have been relaxed.
BT BAF helps financially disadvantaged children pursue different art forms for their growth and development, while STSPMF helps beneficiaries pay for their lunch and transport fares to and from school.
