Clay gets its day in the sun
A pandemic-induced surge in home and studio pottery activity has led to Singapore's first ceramics festival.
LONG underappreciated, ceramic art saw a surge in interest and activity during the pandemic. Singaporeans who were unable to travel signed up for pottery classes in droves. Many pottery studios saw their total enrolment figures double - even though actual class sizes had to be reduced due to government restrictions.
Those who got their hands dirty found the activity calming and restorative, quelling the anxieties they were experiencing because of the pandemic.
All that buzz led three ceramic arts lovers - Goh Eck Kheng, Seah Tzi-Yan and Wendy Cheong - to organise the country's first ceramics festival, the Singapore Clay Festival 2021, which runs from Nov 19 to 29 at the Enabling Village in Redhill.
