Covid-19: The nightmare that never ends
Despite fully recovering from the virus, Covid survivors continue to face fear and irrationality from others
IF you think that someone recovering fully from Covid-19 is a battle well fought and should be celebrated, you're right - and maybe wrong. That's because for some Covid survivors, the nightmare has not quite ended. Physically, they're okay, but in the eyes of many people, they're not.
Just take Gregory Van's experience. The chief executive (CEO) and partner of fintech firm Endowus ran into fear and irrationality - other people's - after recovering from Covid: "When I told people (I had recovered), some avoided me and my family. I had to explain that I was not infectious anymore - as I had to test negative on a PCR before being discharged from the hospital."
People he was in contact with before testing positive were also worried, he said. "But the timeline which I became infectious was very clear - as I was tested many times - and that was when I was isolated in the hospital with my 2 children who were also Covid positive. Hence, there was no way I would have been able to pass the virus to anyone in the community."
