DYSFUNCTIONAL doesn't begin to describe American journalist Jeannette Walls' family.

The Glass Castle is a family melodrama based on the renowned gossip columnist's 2005 bestselling memoir.

We learn that her charismatic hillbilly father Rex (Woody Harrelson) is an irresponsible dreamer-drunk. The nomadic clan lives off the grid, criss-crossing the country in their station wagon, fleeing debt collectors and the law, and eventually settling in the West Virginia backwoods where Rex promises to build them a solar-powered glass castle.
