YOUNG graphic artist Dawn Ang demurs: "Chungking Express is not really a film of my generation."
Still, when the 26-year-old watched the classic film by Wong Kar Wai for the first time, she was electrified by its gorgeous cinematography, quirky art direction and seemingly aimless story of two heartbroken policemen (played by Takeshi Kaneshiro and Tony Leung) and the women in their lives.
Having suffered a bad breakup once, Ang instantly related to the characters and set about creating a charcoal-on-paper artwork featuring the characters in their most off-guard moments. "The movie is so weird - it feels kind of contemporary, even though it was made so long ago," she says in characteristic hipster speak.
