Dearly Departed
Always on the forefront of topical issues, theatre company Pangdemonium is staging a powerful play about the effects of cyberbullying on the young and their parents. Late Company, penned by Canadian playwright Jordan Tannahill, centres on a dinner organised by a couple whose teenage son Joel has committed suicide after a spate of bullying.
Who might be the guests? There's none other than Joel's schoolmate Curtis who had admitted to taunting Joel in school, as well as Curtis' parents. At the dinner table, there is one empty chair - reserved for the dead boy. What follows in the next 90 minutes is a highly-intense and provocative drama about grief, justice, revenge, and the world wide web. The star-studded cast includes Janice Koh, Adrian Pang, and Pang's own son Xander in the role of Curtis. The play is directed by the award-winning Tracie Pang.
Late Company runs from Feb 22 to Mar 10 at the Victoria Theatre. Tickets from Sistic.
